Shannon Matthews: The Musical started life in 2010 as an audio CD, voiced by a cast of talented and willing amateurs, written and released independently by Kunt and the Gang (and recorded in a kitchen in Huddersfield!) Off the back off an unexpected sell-out revival performance by the Tuppence Ha'penny Theatre Company at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2022, the film was crowdfunded, with backers' pledges giving the production a budget of £26,000. Shannon Matthews: The Musical... The Movie was filmed predominantly on location in Yorkshire and produced by a cast and crew of independent, undiscovered talent, led by Yorkshire-based director/actor Samantha Hindman.
